1. Strong Relationships

The truth about our society is that even though technology improves our daily life and we have hundreds of different social media sites, people are lonelier than ever. People are always working, or simply always “too busy” but rarely focus on the important things in life like building strong relationships with the people around them.

Furthermore, every single one of us has the power to influence many lives daily. For example, volunteering at an orphanage and making a weekly connection with a child can completely change their life. They will be impacted by the love, dedication, and time you put into them when you don’t have to.

We all wish poverty and crimes didn’t exist, but what are we doing about it?

Don’t underestimate the fact that you could influence children and teenagers into a life with purpose.

2. Your Career

We all know that networking is essential to any career but, what do you do when you have maxed out your network? Volunteering in your field or an area you are interested in will definitely help you network outside of your immediate circle. You will meet people that not only can you learn from, but also could be the door to a new career. On the other hand, volunteering always looks great on your resume!

3. Sense of Purpose

Ever heard the saying “It’s always better to give than to receive”? Well, it specifically applies to volunteering. Whenever we just work to pay for our stuff and are focused on just our families and our needs, we become selfish and often times not as happy as we could be. For some inexplicable reason, donating or volunteering gives you a sense of purpose. You realize that you can actually make a huge impact in someone’s life.

That perhaps some simple words of encouragement are exactly what that single mother needed to fight for her kids.

Perhaps a child will be able to get an education and support their family because of your donation.

Perhaps a family will have a meal for Thanksgiving because you decided to donate food.

The truth is: You have the power to influence. Take advantage of that influence and multiply your blessings by blessing others. There is no greater feeling than knowing you are the reason someone else has decided to make a positive change.

So for these upcoming holidays, choose to trade your time for influence.
